Drugs and examinations are overused
A major problem concerning patients’ rights is overprescription of medicines which leads to patients taking many different drugs. Overconsumption of drugs is a serious health hazard, because medicines interact with each other. It can even put a patient’s life at risk. Professor Pavlos Toutouzas has laid particular emphasis on this in connection with cardiac drugs, where one can render another harmful. This needs further discussion, because some of the causes of the problem are commercial. There have been allegations about certain companies which we have not been able to prove. Examinations are overused too. We conduct axial and magnetic tomography on most patients. Is it necessary? I don’t know.
