In heavy rain, an Athens motorcyclist drives past striking teachers during a protest outside the Education Ministry yesterday. A combination of a 24-hour strike by civil servants and protracted rainfall caused considerable problems to motorists in the capital. Most streets flooded and the tarmac subsided on streets in the central Exarchia district, while over 100 basement flats and shops were inundated.
