A woman walks past one of the 1930s refugee housing blocks on Alexandras Avenue, central Athens, which was the focus of a protest yesterday evening by residents, architects and other groups opposed to government plans to demolish the historic complex. Under Public Works Ministry plans approved by the Culture Ministry last month, six of the eight three-story buildings will be demolished, to be replaced by a park. Yesterday, the Public Works Ministry confirmed it was determined to carry out the project.
