Energy-saving refrigerator
A hybrid application of solar energy and natural gas used in running a refrigerator can save up to 18 percent of the energy that would be required to run a conventional one. Pupils from the 2nd TEE in Peristeri, western Athens, have built an original model of a refrigerator consisting of a solar panel and a natural gas (or liquid gas) motor. The system can also be applied to air-conditioning units, saving four times as much energy as that used by a conventional unit. Last year a group of students at the National Technical University began working on a similar system.
