Coalition faces friction over mosque plans

There were signs of friction between coalition partners SYRIZA and Independent Greek on Thursday, after three SYRIZA cabinet ministers submitted to Parliament an emergency amendment that could facilitate the process of constructing a mosque in Athens.

Right-wing Independent Greek deputies commented on Thursday that they were not going to vote in favor of the amendment tabled by Education Minister Aristides Baltas, Production Reconstruction Panayiotis Lafazanis and Alternate Environment Minister Yiannis Tsironis.

The amendment was expected to be put to the vote on Friday as part of an education bill submitted by the government.
