Police ID man suspected of defrauding elderly

Police in Thessaloniki on Thursday identified a 30-year-old local man as the alleged perpetrator behind a series of scams targeting elderly people over the past few months.

The man, who faces multiple fraud charges, is accused of conning one elderly victim into giving him 1,500 euros by claiming that he urgently needed cash due to his son’s involvement in a traffic accident.

A month earlier, the 30-year-old is alleged to have approached an elderly woman, claiming to be a tax officer, and to have made her hand over 450 euros by claiming that one of her relatives had outstanding dues.
