Tax inspector and customs officers in court over assets

Four tax officials, three customs officers and one tax inspector are to appear at the Court of Audit following checks carried out by the internal affairs department of the General Secretariat for Public Revenues.

Authorities said that the seven public servants were found to have assets worth a total of 640,000 euros more than what was declared in their derivation of wealth (“pothen esches”) forms.

The most serious case appears to be that of the tax inspector, whose assets were worth 509,000 euros more than that declared to authorities.

The general secretariat said it carried out 37 targeted checks between the start of the year and the end of April.
