Former ministers condemn Tsochatzopoulos over kickbacks
Two former socialist ministers, on Wednesday used harsh language to condemn ex-Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos in comments to the court hearing the latter’s appeal against his sentence for money laundering.
Vasso Papandreou described as “hair-raising” the charges on which Tsochatzopoulos was convicted, telling the court she was “outraged” over the kickbacks. She said the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) which sat when Tsochatzopoulos was minister, had only decided on defense deals but had not implemented them.
Yiannos Papantoniou, who succeeded Tsochatzopoulos as defense minister, said there had been a “party” with offset payments for contracts during his predecessor’s term.
