A seagull skims chilly waters off the Halkidiki peninsula on Monday to catch a small fish. As a cold spell set in throughout Greece over the past two days, temperatures dropped yesterday to a low of 10 degrees centigrade below freezing point in the northern town of Florina, and -7C in Grevena. In Athens, the maximum temperature was 9C (48F).
