Greek president said to be invited to Berlin by German counterpart

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos is due to travel to Berlin on July 7 on an invitation by his German counterpart, Joachim Gauck, German news agency DPA reported on Friday.

The visit has also raised speculation regarding the possibility that Pavlopoulos will meet with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, with whom he is already acquainted from when they both served as interior ministers of their respective countries.

Diplomatic channels have yet to confirm the visit, though sources told Kathimerini that it had been planned at least two weeks ago, pending the course of ongoing debt talks.
