Three robbers in hospital following Hersonisos shootout
Three men were under police guard at a hospital in Crete over the weekend after attempting to carry out an armed robbery at a luxury hotel in the resort of Hersonissos, near Iraklio.
The three robbers were shot by police as they attempted to escape with two bags of jewelry stolen at gunpoint from a store inside the hotel.
Police said that they had been monitoring the trio – two local men and an Albanian – after a robbery at a jewelry store in the Cretan resort of Malia.
The men, who are all known to the police, were armed with two Kalashnikov assault rifles and a handgun. Nobody else was hurt during the police operation to arrest them.
