Archbishop: Greece is beyond human help

The country is stuck in a «quagmire» of corruption and moral bankruptcy from which only God or a divinely inspired leader can extract it, the head of the Church of Greece told a Thessaloniki congregation yesterday. Speaking in the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Neapolis, Archbishop Christodoulos said it would be hard to cure the country of its ills. «God alone, with His strength, can save us, and only those who are inspired by the Divine will have the force to impose a blessed way of life on this people,» he said. The archbishop, who has frequently been accused of meddling in the affairs of state, also implicitly accused America of trying to enslave the world. «Who governs the earth… who imposes their will on all men, who are forced to submit in order to avoid being completely exterminated and annihilated?» he asked the congregation.
