Veteran SYRIZA MEP Manolis Glezos says he’s stepping down
SYRIZA MEP Manolis Glezos confirmed on Wednesday that he will step down from his position at the end of the month.
The veteran leftist had said before being elected in last May’s European Parliament elections that he would only serve for a year before handing his seat to someone younger.
Glezos, famed for being one of two young men to take down the swastika flag from the Acropolis during the German occupation, is 93.
He will be replaced by economist Yiannis Milios, who helped draw up SYRIZA’s economic program but did not stand for election in January’s national polls.
