Mini summit on Greece may take place in Brussels next week

European leaders were contemplating a mini-summit on Greece on the sidelines of the European Council scheduled to take place in Brussels on June 25 and 26, Kathimerini understands.

According to sources, the meeting would bring together German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Holland, EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker and Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem in a last-minute effort to resolve the Greek issue before the country’s bailout program expires at the end of June.

Meanwhile, expectations were low regarding tangible progress in talks with lenders at a Eurogroup meeting in Luxembourg on Thursday.

Sources indicated that Thursday’s meeting would be brief as creditors were expecting new proposals from the Greek government, while the latter insisted adequate suggestions to meet agreed fiscal targets had already been tabled.
