Athens journalists’ association to launch ‘seminar’ probe

The Athens journalists’ association ESIEA said on Friday that it planned to meticulously investigate claims by Greece’s former representative at the International Monetary Fund, Panayiotis Roumeliotis, according to which unidentified Greek journalists attended “seminars” organized in Washington by the Fund and by the European Commission.

It noted that any journalists implicated in cases of graft or attempting to mislead public opinion should face disciplinary action.

ESIEA’s intervention followed that of the Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Associations (POESY), which said it planned to ask the IMF for explanations.
