Woman, 65, held on Kalymnos over large cache of illegal artifacts
A 65-year-old woman was arrested on the southeast Aegean island of Kalymnos on Friday, charged with possession of a large cache of illegal antiquities.
The arrest was made as part of an investigation into an illicit antiquities ring. Officers conducting a search of the suspect’s residence discovered more than 20 artifacts, including early Christian and Byzantine clay amphorae.
While the 65-year-old was expected to face a prosecutor on the island of Kos over the weekend, the antiquities were expected to be transferred to the Ministry of Culture in Athens for further evaluation.
