School bus hits car in textbook infringement

Seven primary school children and two adult escorts were slightly injured yesterday afternoon when a school bus hit a car at a northern Athens intersection, flipped over and crashed into a wall. According to traffic police sources quoted by the Athens News Agency, the bus – belonging to the Ellinogermaniki Agogi private school – had been going the wrong way up a one-way street, while the car driver went past a stop sign without braking. Breathalyzer tests showed both drivers to be sober. The bus was carrying a total of 24 pupils, all aged under 12, and two adult escorts, including a teacher. All the children were wearing seat belts, which saved them from more serious injury. The accident took place on the corner of Alsoupoleos and Ipirou streets, in Nea Ionia, close to the main Olympic sports complex.
