Courts to stay shut until July 8

Greece’s courts will be closed from Tuesday until July 8, according to instructions issued on Monday by Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos.

The decision was taken due to the fact that judicial officials will be needed to monitor Sunday’s referendum. During the time that courts will be closed, there will be no eviction orders or foreclosures, according to the ministerial decision.

Also on Monday, it was announce that Vassiliki Thanou-Christofilou was elected the new president of the Supreme Court, where she will replace outgoing Athanasios Koutroumanos.

Thanou-Christofilou had previously served as one of the court’s vice presidents.
