Package outside Israeli Embassy in Athens not a bomb

A bomb disposal team briefly cordoned off an area outside the Israeli Embassy in Athens on Tuesday following a telephone call warning of a suspicious package placed near the diplomatic mission.

The package, a cardboard box, was spotted outside the embassy on the corner of Mouson Street and Kifissias Avenue in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Psychico.

The road was reopened and the alert called off after experts inspected the package and concluded that the package bore no explosives or suspicious content.

The Israeli Embassy was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting in December, an attack that was later claimed by a guerrilla group calling itself Group of Popular Fighters.
