Man caught smuggling migrants under bales of hay
A 42-year-old man in Evros, on Greece’s northern border with Turkey, faces multiple charges including migrant trafficking and resisting arrest after border police found 14 undocumented migrants hiding under bales of hay in the bed of his pickup truck.
The suspect abandoned his vehicle after speeding past a roadblock and tried to get away on foot, but was apprehended despite putting up a fight.
A search of the vehicle revealed the 14 migrants – eight Iraqis, three Pakistanis, two Syrians and a Turk.
The truck also bore false number plates and had been reported stolen a few weeks earlier.
