Tsipras concerned by ‘institutional discord’ over Constantopoulou

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is concerned about an “institutional discord” between his SYRIZA-led government and House Speaker Zoe Constantopoulou, also a SYRIZA lawmaker.

Speaking to Kathimerini, high-ranking government officials said that in a meeting held at the Maximos Mansion on Thursday Tsipras voiced his discomfort with regard to the Speaker’s choice of distancing herself from the “collective direction of the administration and the parliamentary majority which is backing it.”

Speaking to the press following the Maximos Mansion meeting, Constantopoulou described her discussison with the premier as “in-depth and honest" and added that their common goal was to maintain the Left's unity.

Constantopoulou has voted twice against prior actions demanded by the country's lenders in view of Greece reaching a third bailout agreement.
