Treasure hunters guided by vision caught in the act

Two treasure hunters acting on the vision of a woman claiming to be clairvoyant are being questioned by police after being caught by a police patrol conducting illegal excavations at an archaeological site on the outskirts of the northern port city of Thessaloniki.

The two suspects, aged 34 and 42 – one unemployed and the other a part-time farm hand – had allegedly been digging at the site inside the former military base of Kodra for over seven months. They managed to open a 10-meter deep trench after being guided to the location by a 66-year-old woman.

“She told them she has visions and that at this specific location they would find gold coins and jewelry,” one of the investigators, who wished to remain unnamed, told Kathimerini.

Police found 18 pages of hand-written directions during a search of the woman’s house.

Part of the Kodra base had been designated an archaeological site after the discovery of a Macedonian-era tomb.
