Road deaths, injuries rise in first half of the year

There were increases in the number of deaths and serious injuries on Greek roads during the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2014.

According to data published by the traffic police on Tuesday, 357 people died in road accidents during the first six months of 2015, which is 2.6 percent higher than last year.

Also, 493 people suffered serious injuries in crashes, which is a rise of 7 percent on the statistics for 2014.

These increases come despite an overall drop of some 7 percent in the number of crashes.

There were 5,284 road accidents between January and the end of June.
