Forest fire close to homes on Mount Parnitha in northern Athens

A forest fire broke out late on Saturday on the foothills of Mount Parnitha in northern Athens, prompting a large response from the fire service as the blaze was close to homes.

The wildfire was burning the pine forest in the area of Thrakomakedones. Skai TV reported that it was some 150 metres from houses.

As the fire broke out at night, firefighting airplanes could not be used and only fire engines were dispatched to the site of the fire. The planes would be made available after 5.30 a.m. if needed.
