Ministers at odds over jail cell raids
A row broke out Monday between Citizens’ Protection Minister Yiannis Panousis and Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos over inspections carried out in the cells of four members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire guerrilla group and a crime boss.
Responding to claims on the Indymedia website according to which he gave the order for the raids, Panousis denied any involvement, saying, “The order was given from elsewhere and by others who are hiding again.”
Clearly perceiving Panousis’s barbs to be directed at him, Paraskevopoulos responded that “the leadership and staff of the Justice Ministry are not only not hiding but, on the contrary, they are being targeted from all sides.”
