Thessaloniki retirement home director guilty of fuel smuggling

A court in Thessaloniki on Tuesday deemed that the director of a retirement home in Thessaloniki is guilty of fuel smuggling after she allegedly systematically used diesel fuel instead of heating oil for the institution’s radiators and boiler.

The director, who was not named, deprived the state of more than 60,000 euros in unpaid customs charges and tariffs, the court ruled.

The woman appealed against the verdict to the Supreme Court, whose plenary session is to issue a final decision on the case.
