Quake-damaged Greek islands request property tax exemption

Authorities on Cephalonia and Ithaki have asked for residents of the Ionian islands to be excused from paying the ENFIA property tax for 2015 because the state has not yet repaired infrastructure damage wrought by a 2014 earthquake.

The local authorities argue that the lack of help has had a damaging impact on the islands’ economies, making it difficult for citizens to meet their tax obligations.

An ENFIA exemption was in place last year.
