Thessaloniki jeweler dies after robbery

A 27-year-old jeweler allegedly shot by an armed robber in Thessaloniki on Tuesday died following surgery on Wednesday.

Reports suggested the victim and his 54-year-old mother were inside the family jewelry store when the suspect, a 38-year-old Georgian, entered the premises and ordered them to fill a rucksack with jewelry items.

When the 27-year-old reacted the suspect allegedly shot him in the abdominal area, before fleeing on a motorbike with jewelry estimated at 20,000 euros.

He was pursued and arrested by police officers after suffering minor wounds during the chase.
