Garage mechanics
Garage mechanics in Greece are the worst paid in Europe, apart from in the new member states, with earnings that do not exceed 9,494 euros yearly, some 2,000 euros lower than the second-lowest country on the list, Portugal, and some 28,300 euros less than the first, Denmark. Despite this, Greek car mechanics work the longest hours (42 hours per week) in comparison with their European counterparts, with only Czechs and Hungarians working longer hours. Among the 70 cities in the world surveyed by UBS, mechanics’ wages in Athens came in 38th place, that is, in the lower half of the list.
