The square in front of the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, below the Parliament building in central Athens, was fenced off yesterday for refurbishment. There will be no ceremonial changing of the guard until the work is finished. The whole of the Syntagma Square area is to change shape ahead of the August Olympics. Work has already started on the square, which is to be repaved with marble for the third time in a decade.
