Five dead in car accidents in Athens, Patra

Two young women and a young man died in the early hours of Monday after a vehicle carrying six people, all aged between 20 and 23, plunged into the water at the old Patra harbor.

Initial reports suggested the youngsters were on their way home from a party when their car veered off course near the Aghios Nikolaos pier.

While coast guard officers in the Peloponnesian port city were investigating the circumstances surround the deadly incident, post mortem examinations on the three victims were expected to take place later on Monday.

Meanwhile, two men, aged 19 and 20. died when a vehicle in which they were passnegers crashed against an electrical pole on Kifissias Avenue in Maroussi at around 4 a.m. on Monday. The car’s 21-year-old female driver was seriously injured and transferred to a local hospital.

Another two women passengers, aged 19 and 20, were slightly injured and also taken to hospital for treatment.
