Victoria station reopens after refugees relocated

Victoria station on the ISAP electric railway reopened on Tuesday after being temporarily closed due to concerns for the safety of dozens of refugees who had sought shelter from downpours in Athens on Monday.

The refugees and migrants were taken by bus to the tae-kwon-do stadium at Paleo Faliro on Athens’s southern coast and to a temporary camp set up at Elaionas near the city center to house hundreds of asylum-seekers pouring through Greece as they make their way to northern Europe.

Dozens had been sleeping rough on and around Victoria Square, near downtown Omonia, and went scrambling for cover during a storm on Monday.
