Respected priest at Greek Orthodox church in Washington DC dies
Father John Tavlarides, who was the presiding priest at The Greek Orthodox Saint Sophia Cathedral in Washington DC over a period spanning six decades, died on Monday night.
He was a well-respected figure of the diaspora in the US and seen as a key factor in helping the Greek-American community in the US capital flourish.
Father John served Saint Sophia Cathedral as assistant priest from 1956 to 1960, and then as presiding priest from 1960 to 2011.
