Refugees arrive in Piraeus on catamaran

A catamaran carrying 1,742 refugees from the island of Lesvos arrived at the port of Piraeus on Thursday morning, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported. Meanwhile, passenger ferry Eleftherios Venizelos was expected to reach the port of Lesvos on Thursday in order to collect more refugees and migrants and transfer them to Piraeus.

The news agency also reported that at least 268 refugees and migrants had been rescued by the Greek coast guard in the space of 24 hours in 11 rescue operations conducted in the sea areas off the islands of Lesvos, Samos, Farmakonisi and Kos.
