Officers of Greece’s counterterrorism squad on Wednesday raided a small building used for storage purposes in Marathon, eastern Attica, which is believed to have been used by Giorgos Petrakakos, an alleged terrorist arrested in Volos last week, seizing rocket-propelled grenades, Kalashnikov assault rifles as well as six cars, a truck and two motorcycles.

The weapons and the vehicles were to be examined by police ballistics and forensic experts.

Tests on another cache of weapons seized earlier this week from the garden of a house allegedly rented by Petrakakos in Molos, Fthiotida, central Greece, indicated that they have not been used in any terrorist attacks or robberies.

Police suspect the arms might belong to Group of Popular Fighters, an organization which has claimed responsibility for attacks on the Israeli Embassy in Athens in December last year, on the offices of New Democracy in January 2013 and the home of the German ambassador to Greece in December that year.

Petrakakos, 36, is a suspected accomplice of Nikos Maziotis, the leader of another guerrilla group, Revolutionary Struggle.
