Hot bread: Greek bakers donate food to refugees

Bakers in northern Greece have collected hundreds of kilograms of bread and other food for asylum-seekers crossing the country's border on a trek into Western Europe.

Their donation drive produced 540 kilograms (1,190 pounds) of bread, cheese pies and other goods Wednesday in the northern city of Thessaloniki. The food was being taken to Greeces heavily used Idomeni border area in the afternoon for distribution.

Baker association head Elsa Koukoumeria said the food drive aimed to <<help the people passing by the border every day as much as we can.>>

Greek police said 3,700 people had crossed the border heading north in the last 24 hours.
