‘Blue Odyssey’ in February

A major exercise on dealing with radioactive and chemical threats will take place in Attica February 6-8. Code-named «Blue Odyssey,» the exercise will be held in cooperation with Britain, which designed the scenarios to test the participants. It includes dealing with an attack on a ship, which will be acted out at Palaia Fokaia, and an attack on urban installations, to be conducted in Piraeus. Every agency involved in security for the Games at any level – in operations, policy or communications management – will participate in the exercise. Colored smoke will be used to simulate radioactive weapons. Officials say every precaution has been taken to avoid disrupting the routine of those in the area while the exercise is being carried out.
