Ferry boat workers announce strikes for November

There will be no ferry services on November 2 and 3 after the Panhellenic Seamen’s Union (PNO) called a 48-hour strike to protest a new wave of austerity measures including new cuts to pensions.

Describing the two-day walkout as a “warning” to authorities, who are currently discussing more measures with representatives of Greece’s foreign creditors, PNO said it would also join a 24-hour general strike called by the country’s two main unions, the ADEDY civil servants’ union and the GSEE private sectors’ union, for November 12.

“The new avalanche of measures and policies that are a burden on the people do not allow any other choice,” PNO said in a statement.
