Body of man discovered in streambed, possibly victim of flood
Police and emergency workers were called to the northern Athenian suburb of Menidi on Tuesday to retrieve the body of man found in a streambed.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that the body belongs to a man whose ex-wife reported him missing last week, when many parts of Athens were hit by heavy downpours.
Authorities are concerned that the man may have been caught up in floodwater in Helidonous stream and drowned, bringing the toll from Thursday and Friday’s floods to three, following the deaths of a 41-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman in separate incidents in the same general vicinity.
