About 3,000 refugees and migrants arrive in Piraeus, more to come

Close to 3,000 migrants and refugees arrived in Piraeus on Monday morning after being transferred from eastern Aegean islands on board two passenger ferries.

Another three vessels were due to bring more people to Athens later in the day.

The Blue Star Patmos brought 1,424 people, while the Ariandi carried another 1,579 from Lesvos and Chios.

It was not clear how many more people would arrive on the other three vessels, the Terra Jet, the Blue Star 1 and the Eleftherios Venizelos.
