Tram extension to Piraeus on track, says transport minister

The construction of a tram line to Piraeus may be completed on time even though just a quarter of the projects has been finished so far, Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis said on Friday.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Spirtzis said the work could be wrapped up by December next year, as has been planned, because all the groundwork for the project has been conducted.

He also suggested the pace of the work has picked up after a slow start between 2013 and 2014.

The port is currently serviced by buses and the electric railway. A metro connection is due to follow the tram line in the coming years.
