Police, colleges brace for unrest
Authorities are bracing for possible unrest Tuesday on the anniversary of the 1973 student uprising against Greece’s junta.
There are fears of violence following a call to arms by jailed anarchists Nikos Romanos and Panayiotis Argyrou, who last week called for “a month of coordinated actions” and warned of a “black December.” There are also concerns about how anti-establishment groups will act on the first November 17 anniversary under a leftist-led government.
Isolated violence marred protests in Athens during a general strike last Thursday.
Universities in Athens are on standby in a bid to avert possible attempts by anarchists to occupy college grounds.
