Vehicles splash their way through Vassilissis Amalias Avenue in central Athens yesterday morning, following a heavy rainstorm that added to the capital’s usual traffic problems. Scientists said yesterday that this month’s precipitation was close to the 50-year record for January, reaching 138.9 millimeters – compared to the average 49.1 millimeters.
