Greek PM calls on president to convene meeting of political leaders

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday asked President Prokopis Pavlopoulos to convene a meeting of the country’s political leaders. According to reports, Tsipras wants the meeting to be called after Pavlopoulos returns from an official two-day visit to Rome on Friday.
There has been speculation that Tsipras, who has seen the majority of his SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition whittled down to 153 lawmakers in the 300-seat House over the past few weeks, will seek support from opposition parties to pass a second batch of controversial legislation demanded by the country’s creditors in exchange for bailout funds.
Tsipras is due to return from a visit to Israel on Thursday night.
