Downtown metro stations to close for Grigoropoulos rally

The downtown Athens metro stations of Panepistimio and Syntagma will be closed on Sunday afternoon as part of security measures for a rally commemorating the December 6, 2008, killing by a policeman of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos in the district of Exarchia.

Some small scuffles broke out between police and protesters at Athens University, but authorities are concerned of more violence later in the day after clashes last year saw 12 police officers injured when self-styled anarchists climbed up to the rooftops of buildings in Exarchia and launched attacks with Molotov cocktails, rocks and other objects.
