First House worker who lied about qualifications sacked

The first of 15 parliamentary staff found to have used fake qualifications to get their jobs was officially fired on Monday.

A decision issued by Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis published on the government’s online Diavgeia system on Monday confirms that the unnamed employee, who worked in the House’s IT department for around 20 years, had been dismissed.

Checks revealed the university degree he claimed to have earned was a forgery.

The checks were initiated in 2012 when current New Democracy MP Evangelos Meimarakis was parliamentary speaker and have continued since then, revealing that another 14 staff used bogus qualifications.
