Rioter sentenced for targeting police in Athens on Sunday

A 23-year-old man arrested during disturbances in Athens on Sunday night, following a rally marking the anniversary of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos’s killing by a policeman, was give a three-year suspended jail sentence on Tuesday by a misdemeanors court in Athens.

The man was found guilty of using a slingshot to fire nuts and bolts at police.

However, he told the court that he had no links with any of the other rioters and that he regretted his actions.

The other eight people that have been charged, including four minors, are due to face a magistrate in the next few days.
