Union urges retail store employees to strike Sunday

A union representing retail store employees has called on its members to strike on Sunday, when shops are due to be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, December 13 has been designated as one of the eight Sundays per year that retail stores can open but the Federation of Private Sector Employees (OIYE) wants its members to use the opportunity to protest against Sunday opening.

A demonstrations is due to take place on Ermou Street in central Athens from 10 a.m.

The Christmas shopping schedule, by which stores open for longer hours, begins today. Shops are scheduled to be open next Sunday as well, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
