Ferry makes emergency stop following mechanical problems

Passenger ferry Nissos Rodos made an emergency stop at the port of Syros, in the Cyclades, Monday, after mechanical problems were detected for a second time in the boat’s engines.

The Hellenic Seaways vessel, carrying 314 passengers, was heading to Vathy, Samos.

Authorities said the passengers were expected to reach their destinations on other company vessels.

The ferry originally left the port of Piraeus on Sunday evening, but was forced to return to Piraeus after mechanical problems were detected at 10 p.m.
