Elderly dementia patient arrested for sister’s murder
Police on Saturday arrested a 77-year-old man in connection with the murder of his 88-year-old sister, who died in the apartment they shared on New Year’s day in the central Athenian neighborhood of Exarchia.
Police were alerted by neighbors who heard the pair arguing violently and found the woman dead with multiple injuries to her face and head. They believe she was beaten to death by her 77-year-old brother, who suffers from advanced Alzheimer’s disease.
According to witnesses, the siblings were heard arguing on a regular basis.
The suspect is being held under police guard at the Dafni Psychiatric Hospital, where it will also be determined whether he is fit to stand trial.
